Airbnb says the linkup with ChargePoint, a provider of networked charging solutions for EVs, will make it easier for its hosts to install EV chargers at their listings and expand access to EV chargers across the US. This comes as searches using Airbnb's EV charger filter grew more than 80% from 2022 to 2023.

The EV charging offer includes: Discounts on various ChargePoint EV charger models, including up to 36% off of select ChargePoint EV charger models.
US$100 off on installation services. An additional US$200 discount funded by Airbnb to the first 1,000 hosts that buy an EV charger through ChargePoint.

Airbnb says its internal data shows that listings offering an EV charger are booked for more nights and generate more income, on average compared to listings without an EV charger.

The online homestays provider adds: "With our new listings editor in the Listings tab, we’ve made it easy for hosts to showcase and manage the details of their home, including amenities such as EV charging access to help their listings appeal to guests who drive electric vehicles."

Airbnb says the partnership comes at a time where its guests are increasingly seeking access to convenient EV chargers, with California, Florida, Texas, Arizona, Washington and North Carolina ranking as the most popular states for these searches in 2023. This data reflects larger trends around the EV market in the US. From 2022 to 2023, EV sales in the US increased 60% year over year, with California, Florida, Texas and Washington leading the nation with the highest number of EV registrations.

“We are thrilled to join forces with ChargePoint to help hosts meet growing demand for electric vehicle chargers from guests. By making it more affordable for hosts to install EV chargers, we are empowering them to take more sustainable actions and appeal to guests who are interested in this amenity,” said Ameet Konkar, Airbnb’s director of sustainability.

“Ensuring all drivers are able to charge when and where they need to remains our top priority. Together with Airbnb, we are removing barriers to broader adoption of residential charging solutions for Airbnb hosts and enabling a frictionless charging experience for their guests,” said Rick Wilmer, CEO at ChargePoint.
