Access to EV charging infrastructure is impacting where people choose to live, data from ChargeGuru UK, a leading provider of EV charging solutions has revealed.

Norway has seen another record year for electric car sales with an 88.9% market share in 2024, according to statistics from the Norwegian Road Federation. The country is now targeting 100% of sales this year to be be zero-emission vehicles.

As we arrive at the halfway point of the 2020s, the EV charging landscape in 2025 looks very different from the start of the decade. EV charging company Mer’s director of public charging, Elizabeth Warren, and head of sales – fleet and workplace charging, Natasha Fry, take a look at the changes we might see over the coming year.

Only 56% of homes in the UK can support electric EV points, according to research from Lloyds Bank. This is due to lack of on-street parking and is a major barrier to EV uptake, the research found. The provision of on-street charge points in residential areas for the 44% unable to home charge is one solution to this problem, but it does not come without issues of its own.

In its latest National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program quarterly update, the Joint Office of Energy and Transportation says that an additional 12,000 public charging ports have come online.
