The underground parking facility, part of the four-tower Hillside project in Burnaby's Concord Brentwood community, features 1,974 parking spaces. Each space offers round-the-clock access to EV charging, supported by an electrical infrastructure system capable of powering all access points concurrently if required.
The commitment to this extensive charging infrastructure stems from a pledge made by Concord Pacific's chief executive officer Terry Hui at a UN Global Citizen's Laureate dinner in 2015, where he promised to develop green infrastructure and power for future communities.
"This achievement aligns with our ongoing commitment to sustainable future communities," says Hui. "Our portfolio of wind, solar, and hydro projects has expanded across five Canadian provinces over 15 years, helping to complete the sustainable transportation cycle."
Burnaby mayor Mike Hurley supports the initiative: "This new EV facility matches our vision for Burnaby. Achieving carbon neutrality requires community-wide participation, including residents and businesses."
The parking facility is divided into two zones, each featuring dual entrance and exit points for efficient vehicle movement. Individual monitoring of each charging point ensures residents only pay for their power consumption.
The development's location, less than half a kilometre from Brentwood SkyTrain station, enhances its sustainability credentials. Future phases will complete a bicycle network connecting Burnaby and Vancouver, with 90% of all Concord Pacific properties situated within walking distance of rapid transit services.
