The 42 high-powered chargers will be installed in key locations near cities such as Dundee, Edinburgh, Stirling, and Dunfermline providing reliable, high-speed charging options for both local commuters and tourists exploring Scotland’s scenic landscapes. These will join E.ON’s first ultra-rapid hub in Scotland, already operational in Aberdeen.
E.ON says that, with a combined charging capacity of 12.6MW equivalent to the power needs of 40,000 UK homes, the chargers will be capable of charging up to 42 vehicles at a time, each providing up to 150 miles of range in just 10 minutes. The rollout marks a significant milestone in E.ON’s commitment to making electric driving more convenient, helping to accelerate the transition to sustainable transportation and driving the energy transition across the UK.
Aberdeen charging site
The Aberdeen hub, already operational at Wellington Circle, south of the city, features 12 ultra-rapid charging bays, including four designed to provide additional accessibility for disabled users. As E.ON’s most northern EV charging station in the UK, it is strategically positioned at the gateway to the Granite City, offering reliable EV charging for drivers travelling in and out of the area.
While Scotland has the second-largest geographic EV charging network in the UK, the distances between chargers can create challenges for drivers. The development will not only be E.ON’s first public EV charging hub in Scotland as the company aims to broaden its network across the UK, they will also bridge critical gaps in infrastructure, making charging more accessible and enabling seamless journeys for EV drivers.

E.On says Scotland’s charging network expansion is part of its broader strategy to revolutionise EV travel across the UK. In 2024 the company introduced 72 ultra-fast charging bays across England and Wales. The latest of these hubs include Wales’s first ultra-fast public EV charging hub featuring 10 ultra-fast chargers, and at Selby, in Yorkshire, just off the A63 with six 300kW charging points.
On the residential side, E.ON has also installed around 8,000 home chargers and 2,000 chargers for small businesses, enabling over 50 million miles of EV charging in 2024.
