The pilot project includes 20 electric vehicles, ranging from light delivery vehicles to light trucks, and the installation of 10 charging stations across five Eskom sites. These sites, including Brackenfell (Cape Town), Mkondeni (Pietermaritzburg), Tlhabane (Rustenburg), and Marathon (Mbombela), form the foundation of Eskom's goal to electrify its entire fleet by 2040.

General Manager Gabriel Kgabo emphasised Eskom’s focus on sustainable growth, energy security, and alignment with South Africa’s EV market goals. He highlighted initiatives like the EV White Paper (December 2023) and incentives for local EV production starting in 2026.

In partnership with Gridcars, the new charging stations feature state-of-the-art 60kW DC Fast Chargers and 22kW Dual AC Chargers, supporting both fleet and workplace charging. This project is a blueprint for Eskom's future EV expansion and contributes to South Africa's transition to a low-carbon economy.
