This grant will help deploy GoPowerEV’s EV charging solutions in California's disadvantaged and low-income communities, and affordable housing.
Chosen from 30 proposals, GoPowerEV's personal EV charging solution was recognised for advancing California’s clean energy goals efficiently. Residents can charge in their own parking spaces, avoiding competition for shared spaces. The energy management software meets the needs of more residents with less peak power, reducing the need for electrical upgrades. This innovative solution addresses three critical challenges: increasing EV adoption in low-income communities, reducing the cost and management burden of EV charging for property owners, and reducing grid load during peak times.
With increasing costs for traditional high-powered EV chargers and limited capacity in older buildings, GoPowerEV offers a cost-effective alternative. Longer home charging sessions make lower-powered solutions more affordable, saving drivers US$1,500 annually compared to petrol cars. This grant funds installations in approximately 30 Southern Californian communities, part of a potential larger US$6.2 million grant including Northern California.
“Increasing EV adoption relies on making EV charging convenient and affordable in disadvantaged communities,” says John Reister, CEO of GoPowerEV. “With the CEC's support, we can scale operations and help the state meet its sustainability goals without increasing costs.”
