Canadian Ministers Sean Fraser and George Heyman, along with CRD Board Chair Colin Plant announced this initiative to make electric vehicle charging more accessible in Greater Victoria and the Southern Gulf Islands. The project aims to encourage EV adoption, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting cleaner air.

Funding will support approximately 576 Level-2 and 20 direct-current fast-charge (DCFC) EV charging ports across 80 public locations. The CRD is leading regional coordination, with the City of Victoria managing a portion of the charging infrastructure. By expanding public access to EV charging, the project leverages British Columbia's clean electricity supply to reduce emissions.

Such investments in electric transportation infrastructure enhance community resilience and contribute to a sustainable future, fostering job creation and economic growth.
