Through this innovative partnership, Volvo drivers can access OVO's Charge Anytime service, offering charging at 7p/kWh. Kaluza's software automatically shifts charging to more economical and environmentally friendly times. As an added incentive, new subscribers will receive 2,700 miles of free EV charging upon enrolment.
The announcement comes as new research from OVO reveals that financial considerations are driving EV adoption. More than half of UK residents cite lower running costs as the primary factor influencing their decision to switch to an EV, while 40% are motivated by government or tax incentives. The research also shows that three-quarters of people would be more likely to purchase an EV if they had access to a charging tariff that automatically selected the lowest possible rates.
As Volvo Cars' technology partner, Kaluza has created a personalised, Volvo-branded experience within the existing app ecosystem. This integration allows Volvo to maintain control over how drivers interact with smart charging features while ensuring consistency with their standards and customer expectations.
Future developments will include bi-directional V2X services, enabling Volvo customers to not only charge at lower rates but also export surplus energy back to their homes and support grid balancing.
