EVAP (Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines) will host the event in partnership with the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) and in partnership with the Department of Energy (DoE) and EV pioneer Nissan Philippines Inc (NPI).
New legislation, the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act (EVIDA) which came into force recently, seeks to incentivise the rapid adoption of electric vehicles and charging stations in the Philippines. It mandates five per cent EV share in corporate and government fleets, dedicated parking slots for EVs, installation of charging stations in parking lots and gasoline stations, green routes in cities and municipalities, as well as fiscal and non-fiscal incentives for EV manufacturing, charging station importation, and EV utilisation.
Araga said that this year's summit will showcase the EV industry's solidarity in fulfilling the policy objectives of the EVIDA. "This is the right time for us to rebrand to reflect EVAP's vision of a modern and electrified road transport in the Philippines. We also wanted to reaffirm our commitment to advance the country's transition to EVs by advocating and supporting enabling policies, rules and regulations to accelerate their deployment in the public and private sectors," Araga added in a statement.
Discussions at the summit will include rules and regulations updates on the Comprehensive Roadmap for the Electric Vehicle Industry, a policy dialogue with the Asian Federation of Electric Vehicle Association, trends and issues in the EV landscape in the country, and EV technology presentations, among others.
