This milestone supports the council’s goal to establish 2,500 charge points by March 2026, with 518 of the current chargers installed by Ubitricity, and others by Believ and BP Pulse.
Since May 2019, Ubitricity, a Shell subsidiary, has partnered with Waltham Forest Council to deploy more than 500 lamppost-based charge points using GULCS (Go Ultra Low City Scheme) funding and direct contracts. By the end of 2024, Ubitricity expects to have installed over 700 charge points, contributing to Waltham Forest’s ranking as the UK’s 12th highest in EV sockets.
The council has set ambitious targets, including providing at least two EV sockets per controlled parking zone, ensuring 80% of households are within 250 metres of a fast-charging EV socket, and equipping each town centre with rapid charging points and hubs.
“This milestone shows our commitment to helping residents switch to electric vehicles and improve local air quality,” said Cllr Lucy Woakes, deputy leader of Waltham Forest Council.
