This initiative, part of the InnovAcció 2030 programme, aims to address challenges in expanding electromobility in the city, such as parking area concentration and infrastructure maintenance. EV Safe Charge's win is attributed to its mobile robotic EV charger, Ziggy, designed to be accessible within car parks. This marks the first city-led pilot of such a solution globally.
Barcelona aims to become more sustainable by promoting electromobility. EV Safe Charge will integrate Ziggy with Barcelona's existing charging infrastructure, including the SMOU app used by over 800,000 people. The solution must be scalable and replicable in any Barcelona car park and other cities.
The pilot project has commenced, with phases including prototype development, integration with B:SM systems, and testing. The expectation is for Ziggy’s potential to optimise EV charging demand in rotating parking spaces.
The initiative aligns with the UN's Sustainable Development Goals and Barcelona's 2030 Agenda efforts. EV Safe Charge will receive €90,000 to execute the pilot program.
B:SM, owned by Ajuntament de Barcelona, is a leading force in Barcelona's electromobility network, Endolla Barcelona, with over 720 charging points and plans for expansion.
