
This compares favorably with rivals such as Tesla whose Superchargers, especially the V3 version, take 15 minutes add up to 200 miles of range.
The new 1,000 kW charging power will be part of BYD's latest Super e-Platform, with the automaker planning to build 4,000 new charging stations across China to support the super-fast charging technology.
Reuters reported BYD as saying that it has developed a range of technologies including batteries with a 10C charging multiplier that can be charged at 10 times the battery's capacity per hour. The other tech supporting the 1,000 kW charging power includes high-power motors, high-volt silicon carbide power chips and fast chargers.
BYD chairman and president Wang Chuanfu commented: "The ultimate solution is to make charging as quick as refueling a gasoline car.
